Trending Therapists: Dos and Don'ts of Social Media and Mental Health Practice
In a time when the need for quality mental health services is greater than ever both therapists and clients have unlimited access to the internet and almost constant contact with social media outlets. With that, comes greater exposure to both helpful and hindering sources of information. It is easy to lose touch with our training to be objective in light of this constant exposure.
This presentation will emphasize the importance of evidence-based diagnostic assessment and treatment for both clinicians and clients. Clinicians will be provided with strategies to approach new sources of information with a critical-eye, help clinicians reduce perpetuating diagnoses as a result of current social media “trends” and provide clinicians with valuable tools to facilitate discussions with clients around these issues.
This presentation will also highlight the positives that social media has brought to the profession and mental health as a whole.
Agenda Enhancing Supervisors
This workshop will help supervisors learn supervision styles, management skills, the importance of self care, what supervisees are seeking in their supervision, the role of trust in supervision, using a self evaluation wheel to check in with one’s own supervision goals and performance. The goals of this training will be to help supervisors be effective and purposeful in their role as well as learning how to set their own goals and evaluate their own progress.
